How to know whether a website is secured or not?

Now a days so many people are facing a lot of security problems while using online banking and get worried about the web site security and are also loosing their money too. In the browsers address bar the web address gets added with http or https. Http means the web site is not securred or it is not a secured connection and https means it is a secured connection.
